The fork still wore upstream's brand throughout: "World Monitor" in 754 places
of prose and metadata, WORLD MONITOR in the blog logo and footer, and a byline
reading "by Someone.ceo" — another company's name signing our pages. Blog
assets, OG images and post directories were named for it too, and the OpenAPI
schema types carried it in every identifier.

Files are renamed, references follow them, and the localStorage and slug names
match. Deleted .claudedocs/sentry-triage, an AI-written summary file of the kind
that belongs in LLM.md if anywhere.

NOTICE and LICENSE are untouched by design. NOTICE names the upstream project,
the fork point and the original author; LICENSE keeps his copyright line, which
MIT requires. That is where credit belongs — not in our product's chrome.

Crises unfold in Arabic. Markets move in Mandarin. Diplomatic cables are written in French. Military communications happen in Russian. Yet most intelligence platforms are English-only, forcing analysts to work in a second language during high-pressure situations.</p>
<p>Hanzo World speaks <strong>21 languages</strong> natively, with full interface localization, language-specific news feeds, AI analysis in your preferred language, and search that works in any supported script.</p>
<h2 id="full-interface-localization">Full Interface Localization</h2>
<p>Every element of Hanzo World’s interface is translated:</p>
<ul>
<li>Panel titles and descriptions</li>
<li>Layer names and toggle labels</li>
<li>Button text, tooltips, and status messages</li>
<li>Error messages and notifications</li>
<li>Command palette commands</li>
<li>Country names in native language forms</li>
</ul>
<p>This isn’t machine translation bolted on as an afterthought. The localization system uses <strong>lazy-loaded language bundles</strong>, meaning only your active language is downloaded. The initial page load is fast regardless of which language you choose, and switching languages loads the new bundle on demand.</p>
<h2 id="supported-languages">Supported Languages</h2>
<table><thead><tr><th>Language</th><th>Script</th><th>Direction</th><th>Region Coverage</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>English</td><td>Latin</td><td>LTR</td><td>Global</td></tr><tr><td>French</td><td>Latin</td><td>LTR</td><td>France, Africa, Middle East</td></tr><tr><td>German</td><td>Latin</td><td>LTR</td><td>Central Europe</td></tr><tr><td>Spanish</td><td>Latin</td><td>LTR</td><td>Americas, Spain</td></tr><tr><td>Italian</td><td>Latin</td><td>LTR</td><td>Mediterranean</td></tr><tr><td>Portuguese</td><td>Latin</td><td>LTR</td><td>Brazil, Portugal, Africa</td></tr><tr><td>Dutch</td><td>Latin</td><td>LTR</td><td>Netherlands, Belgium</td></tr><tr><td>Swedish</td><td>Latin</td><td>LTR</td><td>Scandinavia</td></tr><tr><td>Polish</td><td>Latin</td><td>LTR</td><td>Eastern Europe</td></tr><tr><td>Czech</td><td>Latin</td><td>LTR</td><td>Central Europe</td></tr><tr><td>Romanian</td><td>Latin</td><td>LTR</td><td>Southeast Europe</td></tr><tr><td>Bulgarian</td><td>Cyrillic</td><td>LTR</td><td>Balkans</td></tr><tr><td>Greek</td><td>Greek</td><td>LTR</td><td>Eastern Mediterranean</td></tr><tr><td>Russian</td><td>Cyrillic</td><td>LTR</td><td>Russia, Central Asia</td></tr><tr><td>Turkish</td><td>Latin</td><td>LTR</td><td>Turkey, Central Asia</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Arabic</strong></td><td><strong>Arabic</strong></td><td><strong>RTL</strong></td><td><strong>MENA, Gulf</strong></td></tr><tr><td>Chinese (Simplified)</td><td>CJK</td><td>LTR</td><td>China, Singapore</td></tr><tr><td>Japanese</td><td>CJK</td><td>LTR</td><td>Japan</td></tr><tr><td>Korean</td><td>Hangul</td><td>LTR</td><td>Korea</td></tr><tr><td>Thai</td><td>Thai</td><td>LTR</td><td>Southeast Asia</td></tr><tr><td>Vietnamese</td><td>Latin (diacritics)</td><td>LTR</td><td>Southeast Asia</td></tr></tbody></table>
<h2 id="arabic-and-rtl-first-class-support">Arabic and RTL: First-Class Support</h2>
<p>Arabic support isn’t just text translation. It requires <strong>Right-to-Left (RTL) layout transformation</strong>:</p>
<ul>
<li>The entire interface mirrors: sidebars, panels, navigation, buttons</li>
<li>Text alignment switches from left to right</li>
<li>Numerical displays respect locale formatting</li>
<li>Map controls adapt to RTL interaction patterns</li>
<li>The command palette accepts Arabic search queries</li>
</ul>
<p>For analysts in the Middle East and North Africa, this means Hanzo World feels native, not like an English tool with Arabic text forced into a left-to-right layout.</p>
<h2 id="cjk-language-support">CJK Language Support</h2>
<p>Chinese, Japanese, and Korean present unique challenges for intelligence platforms:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Character width:</strong> CJK characters are double-width, requiring layout adjustments</li>
<li><strong>Input methods:</strong> Search must work with IME (Input Method Editor) composition</li>
<li><strong>Line breaking:</strong> CJK text doesn’t use spaces between words, requiring different text wrapping</li>
<li><strong>Country names:</strong> Each CJK language has different names for countries (日本 vs 일본 vs 日本)</li>
</ul>
<p>Hanzo World handles all of these. The command palette accepts CJK input during IME composition, country search works with local names, and text displays correctly at any zoom level.</p>
<h2 id="language-specific-news-feeds">Language-Specific News Feeds</h2>
<p>This is where multilingual support goes beyond interface translation. Hanzo World’s <strong>435+ RSS feeds</strong> include <strong>locale-specific sources</strong>:</p>
<p>When you switch Hanzo World to French, you don’t just see English headlines translated. You see French-language sources: <a href="https://www.lemonde.fr/">Le Monde</a>, <a href="https://www.france24.com/fr/">France 24</a>, <a href="https://www.afp.com/fr">AFP</a>. Switch to Arabic and you see <a href="https://www.aljazeera.net/">Al Jazeera Arabic</a>, <a href="https://www.alarabiya.net/">Al Arabiya</a>, local MENA outlets. Switch to Japanese and Japanese news sources appear.</p>
<p>This matters because:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Local sources cover local events first</strong>, often hours before English wire services</li>
<li><strong>Nuance is lost in translation.</strong> Reading a source in its original language captures tone, emphasis, and cultural context that translation strips away</li>
<li><strong>Regional perspectives differ.</strong> A French source and a British source cover the same African event with different framing</li>
</ul>
<h2 id="ai-analysis-in-your-language">AI Analysis in Your Language</h2>
<p>Hanzo World’s AI capabilities generate output in your selected language:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>World Brief:</strong> The AI-synthesized daily intelligence summary is generated in your language</li>
<li><strong>Country Dossiers:</strong> AI analysis adapts to the selected locale</li>
<li><strong>Threat Classification:</strong> Categorization labels appear in your language</li>
<li><strong>AI Deduction:</strong> Geopolitical forecasting is generated in the interface language</li>
</ul>
<p>When using local LLMs (Ollama, LM Studio), multilingual output depends on the model’s training data. Larger models like Llama 3.1 70B handle most major languages well. The browser-based T5 fallback performs best in English but provides basic multilingual capability. For more on how Hanzo World keeps your data private with local AI, see <a href="/blog/posts/ai-powered-intelligence-without-the-cloud/">AI-Powered Intelligence Without the Cloud</a>.</p>
<h2 id="multilingual-command-palette">Multilingual Command Palette</h2>
<p>The Cmd+K command palette indexes keywords in all 21 languages:</p>
<ul>
<li>Search for “Allemagne” → Germany (French)</li>
<li>Search for “Japón” → Japan (Spanish)</li>
<li>Search for “ロシア” → Russia (Japanese)</li>
<li>Search for “مصر” → Egypt (Arabic)</li>
<li>Search for “중국” → China (Korean)</li>
</ul>
<p>All 195 countries have searchable names in every supported language. Layer names, panel names, and command keywords are also localized in the search index. Learn more about this feature in <a href="/blog/posts/command-palette-search-everything-instantly/">Command Palette: Search Everything Instantly</a>.</p>
<h2 id="auto-detection">Auto-Detection</h2>
<p>Hanzo World automatically detects your browser’s language preference on first visit. If your browser is set to German, Hanzo World opens in German. If your system uses Arabic, you get the full RTL Arabic experience immediately.</p>
<p>You can manually switch languages at any time. The preference is saved to localStorage and persists across sessions.</p>
<h2 id="use-cases-for-multilingual-intelligence">Use Cases for Multilingual Intelligence</h2>
<h3 id="international-organizations-un-nato-eu">International Organizations (UN, NATO, EU)</h3>
<p>Staff from dozens of countries need a common intelligence picture in their working language. Hanzo World’s 21 languages cover the official languages of the UN (English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Russian) and most NATO member languages.</p>
<h3 id="multinational-corporations">Multinational Corporations</h3>
<p>Security teams monitoring global operations need intelligence in the languages of their regional offices. A VP in Dubai sees the dashboard in Arabic. A manager in Tokyo sees it in Japanese. A director in Paris sees it in French. Same data, local language.</p>
<h3 id="regional-analysts">Regional Analysts</h3>
<p>An analyst focusing on MENA works most effectively in Arabic, reading Arabic sources, with Arabic interface labels. Switching to Hanzo World’s English version for a cross-regional briefing takes one click.</p>
<h3 id="academic-research">Academic Research</h3>
<p>Researchers studying geopolitics in non-English contexts benefit from seeing data presented in the language of the region they study. Terminology consistency with local academic literature improves when the tool speaks the researcher’s language.</p>
<h3 id="journalism">Journalism</h3>
<p>Correspondents based in foreign bureaus can use Hanzo World in the local language, making it easier to cross-reference dashboard intelligence with local source material. See how journalists use Hanzo World for <a href="/blog/posts/track-global-conflicts-in-real-time/">tracking global conflicts</a>.</p>
<h2 id="technical-implementation">Technical Implementation</h2>
<p>For the technically curious:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>i18next</strong> framework with lazy-loaded JSON bundles per locale</li>
<li><strong>Browser language detection</strong> via i18next LanguageDetector</li>
<li><strong>Fallback chain:</strong> Requested locale → English for missing keys</li>
<li><strong>RTL detection:</strong> Automatic <code>dir="rtl"</code> attribute application for Arabic</li>
<li><strong>No full-page reload:</strong> Language switching is instant, handled by React re-renders</li>
<li><strong>Bundle sizes:</strong> Each language pack is typically 15-30KB (gzipped), loaded only on demand</li>
</ul>
<h2 id="contributing-translations">Contributing Translations</h2>
<p>Hanzo World is open source. Translation contributions for new languages or improvements to existing translations are welcome through the GitHub repository. The JSON-based translation format makes it straightforward for bilingual contributors to add or refine translations without writing code.</p>
<h2 id="frequently-asked-questions">Frequently Asked Questions</h2>
