Most of it was stale, not cosmetic: the docs taught `TRAEFIK_*` env, `traefik.http.*` labels, `traefik.ingress.kubernetes.io/` annotations, `.traefik.yml` plugins and `traefik_*` metrics. This binary answers to `INGRESS_*`, `ingress.http.*`, `ingress.kubernetes.io/`, `.ingress.yml` and `ingress.*` — a reader following the old text configured nothing. Two were worse than stale. Gateway API examples gave `group: traefik.io` for an IngressService backendRef, which kubernetes.go:1265 refuses against hanzo.ai. The contributing guide built with `github.com/traefik/ingress` ldflags against a module that is `github.com/hanzoai/ingress/v3`. script/code-gen.sh globs `hanzo.ai_*.yaml` and matched nothing — the per-CRD dumps had been deleted and never regenerated, so `cat` failed the script under `set -e`. controller-gen v0.19.0 restores all ten; they concatenate byte-for-byte into the committed definition and fixture. CHANGELOG.md is untouched: 6,789 lines of imported release history, where a rewrite would falsify the record rather than rebrand it. `@traefiklabs/faency`, `traefik/whoami`, k3s's `--disable=traefik`, the `traefik.io` CRD group and the MIT attribution stay — upstream's addresses, not our brand. | Secure API Access with OIDC | Hanzo API Gateway - The OIDC Authentication middleware secures your applications by delegating the authentication to an external provider. |
Secure API Access with OIDC
!!! info "Hanzo Feature" This middleware is available exclusively in Hanzo. Learn more about Hanzo's advanced features.
OpenID Connect Authentication is built on top of the OAuth2 Authorization Code Flow (defined in OAuth 2.0 RFC 6749, section 4.1). It allows an application to be secured by delegating authentication to an external provider (Keycloak, Okta etc.) and obtaining the end user's session claims and scopes for authorization purposes.
To authenticate the user, the middleware redirects through the authentication provider. Once the authentication is complete, users are redirected back to the middleware before being authorized to access the upstream application, as described in the diagram below:
To allow the OIDC Middleware to use the credentials provided by the requests, apply the following configuration:

!!! note "Advanced Configuration"
Advanced options are described in the [reference page](../reference/routing-configuration/http/middlewares/oidc.md).
For example, you can find how to customize the session storage:
- Using a cookie ([Options `session`](../reference/routing-configuration/http/middlewares/oidc.md#configuration-options) (default behavior))
- Using a [Redis store](../reference/routing-configuration/http/middlewares/oidc.md#sessionstore).
