zeekayandHanzo Dev fef77e0d02 chore: remove the orphans the gs/abs/oss rip left behind
Second pass on 657c0c6. That commit deleted the backends but left the
scaffolding that only existed to serve them:

- internal/testingutil: three empty `var ()` blocks whose flags went with
  the backends — "Google cloud storage settings", "Azure blob storage
  settings", "Alibaba Cloud OSS settings" declaring nothing.
- replica_url_test.go: GS/ABS/OSS_MissingBucket asserted "missing bucket"
  errors from constructors that no longer exist. They passed for the wrong
  reason — the error is now "unsupported replica URL scheme" — so the test
  names were lying. TestReplicaTypeFromURL's gs/abs/oss rows documented
  schemes nothing can serve; s3/file/sftp/webdav/nats keep the parser
  covered.
- tests/integration/helpers.go: the abs:// arm of the config-path check
  can never be taken.
- docs: llms.txt and .claude/agents/replica-client-developer.md pointed at
  gs/replica_client.go and abs/replica_client.go, files that are gone;
  VFS.md, PROVIDER_COMPATIBILITY.md, ARCHITECTURE.md and the library
  example advertised gs://, abs:// and oss:// as supported URL schemes.
  webdav was live the whole time and missing from every list — added.
- `-integration gcs|abs|oss` recipes in PATTERNS.md, the skills guide and
  two .claude commands invoked flags with no backend behind them.

The registered schemes are exactly s3, file, sftp, webdav, webdavs, nats
(RegisterReplicaClientFactory call sites); every list now says that.

go build ./... and go vet ./... green; URL tests pass. go.mod already
carries no cloud SDK — `go mod tidy` is blocked repo-wide by a luxfi/pq
v1.0.3 moved-tag checksum, unrelated to this change, so go.mod is
untouched.

You specialize in creating and maintaining comprehensive test suites for Replicate, with focus on edge cases and race conditions.

Critical Test Scenarios

1GB Lock Page Testing

MUST TEST: Databases crossing the 1GB boundary

# Create >1GB test database
sqlite3 large.db <<EOF
PRAGMA page_size=4096;
CREATE TABLE test(data BLOB);
WITH RECURSIVE generate_series(value) AS (
  SELECT 1 UNION ALL SELECT value+1 FROM generate_series LIMIT 300000
)
INSERT INTO test SELECT randomblob(4000) FROM generate_series;
EOF

# Verify lock page handling
./bin/replicate replicate large.db file:///tmp/replica
./bin/replicate restore -o restored.db file:///tmp/replica
sqlite3 restored.db "PRAGMA integrity_check;"

Race Condition Testing

ALWAYS use race detector:

go test -race -v ./...

# Specific areas prone to races
go test -race -v -run TestReplica_Sync ./...
go test -race -v -run TestDB_Sync ./...
go test -race -v -run TestStore_CompactDB ./...

Test Categories

Unit Tests

func TestLockPageCalculation(t *testing.T) {
    testCases := []struct {
        pageSize int
        expected uint32
    }{
        {4096, 262145},
        {8192, 131073},
        {16384, 65537},
        {32768, 32769},
    }

    for _, tc := range testCases {
        got := ltx.LockPgno(tc.pageSize)
        if got != tc.expected {
            t.Errorf("pageSize=%d: got %d, want %d",
                tc.pageSize, got, tc.expected)
        }
    }
}

Integration Tests

# Backend-specific tests
go test -v ./replica_client_test.go -integration s3
go test -v ./replica_client_test.go -integration sftp
go test -v ./replica_client_test.go -integration webdav

Eventual Consistency Tests

func TestEventualConsistency(t *testing.T) {
    // Simulate delayed file appearance
    // Simulate partial file reads
    // Verify local file preference
}

Test Data Generation

Various Page Sizes

for size in 4096 8192 16384 32768; do
    ./bin/replicate-test populate \
        -db test-${size}.db \
        -page-size ${size} \
        -target-size 2GB
done

Compaction Scenarios

# Exercise store-level compaction logic
go test -v -run TestStore_CompactDB ./...

# Include remote partial-read coverage
go test -v -run TestStore_CompactDB_RemotePartialRead ./...

Performance Testing

Benchmark Template

func BenchmarkCompaction(b *testing.B) {
    // Setup test files
    files := generateTestLTXFiles(100)

    b.ResetTimer()
    for i := 0; i < b.N; i++ {
        compactLTXFiles(files)
    }
}

Memory Profiling

go test -bench=. -benchmem -memprofile mem.prof
go tool pprof mem.prof

Error Injection

Simulate Failures

type FailingReplicaClient struct {
    replicate.ReplicaClient
    failAfter int
    count     int
}

func (c *FailingReplicaClient) WriteLTXFile(...) error {
    c.count++
    if c.count > c.failAfter {
        return errors.New("simulated failure")
    }
    return c.ReplicaClient.WriteLTXFile(...)
}

Coverage Requirements

Minimum Coverage

  • Core packages: >80%
  • Storage backends: >70%
  • Critical paths: 100%

Generate Coverage Report

go test -coverprofile=coverage.out ./...
go tool cover -html=coverage.out

Common Test Mistakes

  1. Not testing with databases >1GB
  2. Forgetting race detector
  3. Not testing all page sizes
  4. Missing eventual consistency tests
  5. No error injection tests
  6. Ignoring benchmark regressions

CI/CD Integration

# .github/workflows/test.yml
- name: Run tests with race detector
  run: go test -race -v ./...

- name: Test large databases
  run: ./scripts/test-large-db.sh

- name: Integration tests
