\title{Cert Profile Modes:\\
Operator-Facing PQ-off / PQ-fast / PQ-strict / PQ-heavy Ladder}

\begin{abstract}
LP-017 v1 named cert profiles after astronomical phenomena (Pulsar,
Aurora, Polaris). Those names describe internals, not posture: an
operator cannot read ``Aurora'' and know whether their cert is
PQ-protected or how much latency it costs. This LP replaces the
operator-facing surface with a 4-mode additive ladder:
\textbf{PQ-off} (BLS only), \textbf{PQ-fast} (BLS+Pulsar),
\textbf{PQ-strict} (BLS+Pulsar+Corona), \textbf{PQ-heavy}
(BLS+Pulsar+Corona+Magnetar), with three pure-PQ variants. Seven
valid configurations total. The QuasarCert wire format (LP-182) is
unchanged. The Corona/Pulsar parity audit
(\texttt{lux/threshold/protocols/parity/parity\_test.go},
2026-06-03) measured Corona at $141\times$ Pulsar cost at $N{=}64$
on apples-to-apples Apple M1 Max + DGX Spark GB10 -- algorithmic,
not optimization. PQ-fast = \texttt{BLS + Pulsar} is therefore
locked; PQ-strict adds Corona on top for the never-trust-aggregator
security property. This paper expands on LP-217
(\texttt{lps/LP-217-cert-profile-modes.md}) with the parity audit
verdict, the per-mode use cases, and the LP-202 monotonic
tier-degradation contract that lets a single cert serve all
relying-party policies.
