zeekay 1ecc25e9cf papers: consolidate Photon/Wave/Nova/Nebula/Ray/Field protocol stubs into lux-consensus-engines
The seven engine specifications (lux-{photon,wave,nova,nebula,prism,ray,field}-protocol)
were fragmented short notes documenting layers of the same Quasar consensus stack.
This commit merges them into a single canonical reference, lux-consensus-engines.tex,
that uses one preamble, one set of theorems, one bibliography, and one composition
chapter showing how the engines layer into the LP-020 finality pipeline.

The seven originals are reduced to single-page breadcrumb stubs pointing at the
consolidated paper; their sections/ content is preserved on disk for git history.

- new: lux-consensus-engines/ (50 pages, 646KB PDF, ~2900 lines tex)
- breadcrumbs: each original keeps cover + title + stub paragraph naming its chapter
- composition: chapter 9 records the layered contract Photon < Wave < Nova < ...
- bibliography: consolidated from the seven original thebibliography blocks

\section{Empirical Evaluation}
\label{sec:wave-evaluation}
\subsection{Testnet Configuration}
We deployed the Wave protocol on a 500-node testnet spanning 5 geographic regions
(US-East, US-West, EU-West, Asia-Pacific, South America) with inter-region latencies
of 50--200ms. Validators ran on 4-core VMs with 8GB RAM.

\begin{tabular}{@{}ll@{}}
\toprule
\textbf{Parameter} & \textbf{Value} \\
\midrule
Validators & 500 \\
Sample size $k$ & 20 \\
Quorum fraction $\alpha$ & 0.8 \\
Acceptance threshold $\beta_1$ & 11 \\
Round interval & 50ms \\
Byzantine validators & 0\%, 10\%, 20\%, 30\% \\

\end{tabular}

\label{tab:wave-testnet}
\end{table}
\subsection{Convergence Speed}
Under no Byzantine faults, 99.97\% of transactions finalized within 4 sampling rounds
(200ms). With 20\% Byzantine validators, 99.5\% finalized within 8 rounds (400ms).
At 30\% Byzantine validators (near the theoretical limit), 98\% finalized within 15
rounds (750ms), with the remaining 2\% requiring up to 25 rounds due to adversarial
equivocation creating temporary population splits.
\subsection{Throughput}
The Wave protocol processed 2,800 transactions per second on the 500-node testnet.
The bottleneck was network bandwidth for query/response messages rather than computational
cost. Each sampling round required $k = 20$ query messages and 20 response messages per
validator, totaling $2 \times 20 \times 500 = 20{,}000$ messages per round network-wide.
\subsection{Confidence Counter Evolution}
We tracked the confidence counter evolution for 10,000 randomly selected transactions.
The median trajectory showed $d_1$ reaching $\beta_1 = 11$ in 14 rounds, with $d_0$
never exceeding 1. In adversarial scenarios ($\gamma = 0.2$), the median trajectory
showed $d_1$ reaching 11 in 19 rounds, with $d_0$ reaching at most 3 before the population
converged.
