\section{Introduction}
Cryptographic security has a cost. Every signature, every proof, every encrypted computation consumes CPU cycles, memory, bandwidth, and storage. The question is not ``which primitive is most secure?'' but ``which composition of primitives achieves the required security at acceptable cost?''
This paper measures the cost of every cryptographic primitive in the Lux network stack and explains the architectural decisions that follow from those measurements.
