Adaptive consensus protocols have been explored in the leader-based setting.
|
|
Flexible BFT~\cite{malkhi2019flexible} allows different clients to choose their own
|
|
safety-liveness trade-off. Ditto~\cite{gelashvili2022ditto} adapts block size and
|
|
frequency based on network conditions. Algorand~\cite{gilad2017algorand} achieves
|
|
fast finality through a sortition-based committee selection but uses fixed parameters.
|
|
|
|
Ray is the first protocol to dynamically adapt finality thresholds in the metastable
|
|
consensus family, maintaining the leaderless and parameter-free advantages of
|
|
stochastic sampling while reducing latency in benign conditions.
