\section{Comparison with Existing Protocols}
\label{sec:comparison}
\begin{table}[H]
\centering
\caption{Cross-chain messaging protocol comparison.}
\label{tab:comparison}
\begin{tabular}{p{2.2cm}p{1.8cm}p{1.5cm}p{2cm}p{1.8cm}p{2cm}}
\toprule
\textbf{Protocol} & \textbf{Trust} & \textbf{Proof} & \textbf{Verify Cost} & \textbf{Latency} & \textbf{Liveness Dep.} \\
\midrule
LWM & $2/3$ stake & 48 B + bm & 50K gas & 1--4 s & $2/3$ online \\
IBC & Light client & $\sim$1 KB & $\sim$200K gas & 6--20 s & Relayer + LC \\
XCMP & Relay chain & $\sim$500 B & $\sim$100K gas & 12--60 s & Relay chain \\
LayerZero & Oracle+Relay & $\sim$200 B & $\sim$80K gas & 10--30 min & Oracle \\
Hyperlane & ISM & $\sim$400 B & $\sim$120K gas & 5--30 min & ISM config \\
Axelar & PoS committee & $\sim$300 B & $\sim$150K gas & 30--60 s & Committee \\
\bottomrule
\end{tabular}
\end{table}
\paragraph{Key differentiators.} LWM achieves the lowest latency and verification cost by exploiting shared validator infrastructure. IBC achieves trustlessness but at higher cost and latency. Bridge protocols (LayerZero, Hyperlane, Axelar) introduce external trust assumptions absent in LWM.
