Lux Regenesis - Build Progress (2025-10-28)

✅ MAJOR FIXES COMPLETED

1. IDs Package Regression (CRITICAL)

Fixed 1029+ files with incorrect import paths:

• Changed FROM: github.com/luxfi/node/ids
• Changed TO: github.com/luxfi/ids
• Command used: find . -name "*.go" -type f ! -path "./ids/*" -exec sed -i '' 's|"github.com/luxfi/node/ids"|"github.com/luxfi/ids"|g' {} \;
• Impact: Resolves massive type mismatches across entire codebase

2. Certificate Type Conversions

Fixed 4 locations where staking.Certificate needed conversion to ids.Certificate:

• /Users/z/work/lux/node/utils/ips/claimed_ip_port.go:53
• /Users/z/work/lux/node/vms/proposervm/block/block.go:110
• /Users/z/work/lux/node/vms/proposervm/block/build.go:65
• /Users/z/work/lux/node/network/peer/upgrader.go:78
• Pattern: ids.NodeIDFromCert(&ids.Certificate{Raw: cert.Raw, PublicKey: cert.PublicKey})

3. RequestID Struct Field Names

Fixed 2 locations using wrong field name:

• Changed ChainID to SourceChainID and DestinationChainID
• /Users/z/work/lux/node/snow/networking/router/chain_router.go:172
• /Users/z/work/lux/node/snow/networking/router/chain_router.go:711

4. Q-Chain VM Registration

• Added QVM import to node.go: "github.com/luxfi/node/vms/qvm"
• Registered factory: n.VMManager.RegisterFactory(context.TODO(), constants.QVMID, &qvm.Factory{})
• Status: Q-Chain now registered alongside P, X chains

5. QVM Package Alignment

Updated QVM to use luxfi packages instead of node packages:

• Logger: luxfi/log.Logger (NOT node/utils/logging.Logger)
• Metric: luxfi/metric (NOT node metric)
• Database: luxfi/database (already correct)
• Factory still accepts logging.Logger (required by interface), creates log.Logger internally

6. QVM Block Interface Implementation

Added missing methods to satisfy consensus/engine/chain/block.Block interface:

• Added ParentID() ids.ID method (alias for Parent())
• Added Status() uint8 method with status tracking (0=processing, 1=accepted, 2=rejected)
• Updated Accept() and Reject() to set status field

7. Snow Package References Removal

Removed all incorrect github.com/luxfi/consensus/snow imports:

• Fixed 4 files in /Users/z/work/lux/evm/plugin/evm/
• Changed to: github.com/luxfi/consensus (the consensus package IS the snow implementation)

rpcchainvm AliaserReader Interface Mismatch (2 errors)

Issue: luxfi/ids.AliaserReader vs luxfi/node/ids.AliaserReader interface mismatch Root Cause: Same as IDs regression - some code still referencing node/ids package indirectly

vms/qvm/vm.go:127  - undefined: consensus.Message
vms/qvm/vm.go:129  - undefined: consensus.AppSender
vms/qvm/vm.go:185  - chainCtx.Metrics undefined (type interface{})
vms/qvm/vm.go:236  - cannot slice unaddressable value
vms/qvm/vm.go:306  - undefined: consensus.Bootstrapping
vms/qvm/vm.go:308  - undefined: consensus.NormalOp
vms/qvm/vm.go:310  - undefined: consensus.StateSyncing
vms/qvm/vm.go:456  - RegisterCodec return value issue

QVM Issues Analysis:

1. Need to import metric.Registry type
2. consensus.Message, consensus.AppSender don't exist - need to find correct types
3. chainCtx typed as interface{} in Initialize - needs type assertion
4. vm.getLastAcceptedID() returns value type, can't slice - need [:]
5. consensus.Bootstrapping etc are likely in a different package or need definition
6. RegisterCodec API changed - doesn't return error anymore

🎯 Next Steps (In Order)

1. Fix rpcchainvm AliaserReader (5 min)

   • Find remaining luxfi/node/ids references in galiasreader
   • Change to luxfi/ids

2. Fix QVM consensus types (15 min)

   • Find correct consensus.Message, consensus.AppSender types in consensus package
   • Add proper metric.Registry import
   • Fix consensus state constants (Bootstrapping, NormalOp, StateSyncing)

3. Fix QVM initialization (10 min)

   • Type assert chainCtx to proper type
   • Fix slice operation on getLastAcceptedID
   • Fix RegisterCodec calls (remove error check)

4. Build Node (2 min)

   • cd /Users/z/work/lux/node && go build -o build/luxd ./main

5. Build SubnetEVM (5 min)

   • Test if IDs fix resolved SubnetEVM build
   • cd /Users/z/work/lux/evm && go build -o build/evm ./plugin

6. Build CoreVM (5 min)

   • cd /Users/z/work/lux/geth && go build -o build/geth

7. Launch 5-Node Network (10 min)

   • Copy built VMs to plugins directory
   • Run network launch script
   • Verify P/X/Q/C chains all start

Estimated Time to Completion: 1 hour (mostly QVM fixes)

🔧 Key Architectural Insights

1. Package Hierarchy: ALWAYS use luxfi/ids NOT luxfi/node/ids - node package should not define its own ID types
2. Consensus Package: github.com/luxfi/consensus IS the snow consensus - no /snow sub-package
3. Logger Pattern: VMs use luxfi/log.Logger, factories accept node/utils/logging.Logger (interface requirement)
4. Certificate Conversion: staking.Certificate and ids.Certificate are structurally identical but different types - convert with struct literal
5. RequestID Fields: Use SourceChainID and DestinationChainID, NOT ChainID
6. Block Interface: Must implement ParentID(), Status(), and all other consensus/engine/chain/block.Block methods
