Where a NOTICE was added: the repository forks or republishes upstream work and carried no repository-level credit for it. MIT requires the copyright notice to travel with every copy, and GPL-3.0 §5(a) requires a modified work to say that it is modified. A reader of the root should learn whose work this is before reading any code. Where the LICENSE was corrected: the FSF's copyright line on the GNU licence text had been replaced with ours, immediately above the sentence "Everyone is permitted to copy and distribute verbatim copies of this license document, but changing it is not allowed." The sibling COPYING.LESSER in the same repository carries the correct line, which is how the substitution was found.

Licensing — which licence governs which file
|
|
|
|
The root LICENSE file is the Lux Ecosystem License v1.2. **It does not, and
|
|
cannot, govern the GPL-licensed packages in this repository.**
|
|
|
|
Packages whose package.json declares GPL-3.0-or-later are licensed under the
|
|
GNU General Public License v3.0 or later, and are distributed under those
|
|
terms alone. The GPL text is included at apps/mobile/LICENSE.
|
|
|
|
GPL-3.0 §10 forbids imposing further restrictions on the rights it grants.
|
|
The Ecosystem Licence's limits — including its restriction of commercial use
|
|
to Authorized Networks — therefore do not apply to those packages, and any
|
|
reading of the root LICENSE that would apply them to GPL code is wrong. Where
|
|
the two conflict on a GPL-licensed file, the GPL governs.
|
|
|
|
The Ecosystem Licence governs Lux-authored files that are not GPL-derived.
|
|
The per-package license field and any per-file SPDX header are authoritative
|
|
for what covers a given file.
|
|
|
|
