Nine fields on the launch form are marked required and none of the marks
could ever fire. The form renders one step at a time, so by the time the
button on step three is pressed the controls from steps one and two are
unmounted — the browser has nothing left to validate and the form sends
whatever it has, blank fields included.

It is checked where the answers still exist, and a submission missing
anything says which and returns to the first step rather than silently
sending a half-empty message.

The search overlay was a plain div: nothing told assistive technology a
dialog had opened, and the input carried a placeholder in place of a
label. It has dialog semantics and a real label now. On narrow screens the
button that opens it had a magnifying-glass emoji as its entire accessible
name, which a screen reader reads out as the character's unicode
description; it says Search.
